The Faroes get fewer visitors in a year than Venice handles in a fortnight, and it shows the moment you leave Tórshavn. This is a walking and driving trip through eighteen islands connected by tunnels, ferries and a helicopter service that locals use like a bus. Weather is the itinerary's co-author — we build in slack and swap days around rather than pretending otherwise.

Trip Highlights

  • Múlafossur waterfall dropping off the cliff at Gásadalur
  • Saksun's turf-roofed farmstead above a tidal lagoon
  • The Trælanípa cliff walk above Lake Sørvágsvatn
  • Tórshavn's Tinganes quarter, one of Europe's oldest parliaments

Best months: May – September

How much walking does this involve?

Two half-day hikes of three to four hours over uneven, often boggy ground, plus shorter village walks most days. No technical terrain and no scrambling, but you should be comfortable on your feet for four hours in wind and rain.

What happens if the weather closes in?

Included / Excluded

  • Guided hikes at Trælanípa and Gásadalur
